Are You Looking For Reliable Chartered Accountants in Benhilton?
Just to the north of Sutton town centre, Benhilton is thought to have originally acquired its name through the cultivation of beans. Now a mainly residential area, it was developed mostly during the 19th century; it’s got some thriving local businesses too – the High Street is packed with shops, bars and restaurants offering cuisine from around the world.
At the top of Angel Hill stands Benhilton’s Grade II* listed Gothic Revival church, designed by noted Victorian architect Samuel Teulon. Other attractions include the 69-acre Rose Hill Park, which has a bowling green, tennis courts, outdoor gym equipment, a café and a playground.
Benhilton is also the site of the Sutton garden suburb, designed in the early 20th century on garden city principles, which seek to combine housing with lots of green space, trees and woodland. Philanthropist Thomas Wall – yes, Mr Ice Cream – was behind the development, as he was looking to provide good quality housing for his workers, but the project ran out of money and only a small part of the planned homes were built. It is now a conservation area.
Sutton Common train station in Benhilton has two Thameslink trains an hour to London Blackfriars, which is just under 45 minutes away, going onto St Pancras International. You can also get to London Victoria and London Bridge in just over half an hour from Sutton main station, which has near-constant peak-time trains.
