Do you trade with other countries? Then join the new UK-wide Directory of Exporters

Does your business export – or hope to export – products, skills or services to other countries?

If so, there’s some good news on the horizon. The UK’s five leading high street banks have got together with the new Department for International Trade to transform the way in which businesses access the global market.

Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, NatWest and Santander are all backing the government’s plan to create a new Directory of Exporters, which will link UK companies with contacts across the world. Both customers and buyers from worldwide markets will then be able to search for UK companies that offer what they need.

It’s a great opportunity for firms of all sizes and it is just part of wider government plans to provide a world-leading platform for British businesses and the UK economy. The aim is to provide a groundbreaking service that will make the UK the easiest place in the world from which to start exporting.

As a first step, business customers of the five banks will be encouraged to join the directory and promote their business to world markets. More details about the service will be revealed as it develops ahead of its launch in November this year.

Announcing the partnership at an event in London on the 21 July, Secretary of State for International Trade, Dr Liam Fox, said:

“We want to help UK businesses scale up and take advantage of the global appetite for British goods and services, as well as to demonstrate that there has never been a better time for international companies to partner with UK suppliers.

“The first of its kind, this directory will deliver a unique and new route to global markets, promoting British goods and services on an unprecedented scale. With this kind of creativity and collaborative working between government and industry, I’m confident that we can make the whole of the UK a beacon for open trade around the world.”
