We are a growing firm of accountants with 5 offices located in London, Cheam, Chelmsford, Saffron Walden and City. There are just over 50 of us in the THP family with the vast majority of the team being with us for over 10 years.

This opportunity

We are looking for a part qualified, ACA/ACCA, looking to further develop their skills and gain their qualification in a well-established and ambitious practice assisting our busy professional team with delivering our full range of services to our diverse client base. 

This position reports into our Client Managers and Client Directors based in the Wanstead Office 

Main Responsibilities

Audit (75% of the role)

Complete sections of the audit pack in accordance with THP procedures including notes/queries for principal/manager

  • Complete all substantive tests with minimal supervision
  • Prepare clear logical schedules fully cross referenced to supporting documentation
  • Resolve simple queries and referring more complex issues to more senior members of team members
  • Supervise more junior members of team members as appropriate/if relevant, including checking their work and providing guidance as required
  • Manage own time, recognising any problems at an early stage to ensure that jobs are completed within budget
  • Complete stock takes and write up detailed notes and results
  • Opportunity for involvement in planning smaller audits

 

Accounts & General Practice (25% of role)

  • Complete sets of accounts, working from source documents/records to final accounts for review by the appropriate manager/senior
  • Prepare and work on a wide range of accounts – Limited Company, Sole Trader, Partnership, Group etc.
  • Input data into Iris
  • Analyse and reconcile VAT returns, preparation of VAT returns
  • Prepare sales and purchase control accounts
  • Calculate accruals and prepayments and supporting schedules
  • Prepare or check fixed asset registers
  • Effectively manage time to ensure that jobs are finished within budget
  • Produce management accounts monthly and quarterly for reporting and projection purposes
  • Assisting on Corporate & Personal Tax computations
  • Complete any other duties as requested
  • Dealing with general client queries
  • Complete company secretarial work
  • Opportunity to be involved in ad-hoc client projects

 

Skills, Experience and Attributes required:-

  • Ideally part qualified (ACA/ACCA) or experienced QBE may be considered
  • Strong literacy and numerical skills
  • Proven double entry bookkeeping skills
  • Basic tax knowledge – how to do corporation tax computations, PAYE, VAT
  • Computer experience – Proaudit, IRIS, Sage, Excel, Word
  • Currently working within a practice environment (1-2 years’ experience) with solid audit exposure
  • Good up-to-date technical knowledge including recent developments in accounting standards
  • Communication – oral and written, ability to deal with variety of people in different environments
  • Organised – ability to deal with a variety of tasks and managing a varied workload
  • Client focused
  • Commercially aware
