What are bookkeeping services and why are they important?

Bookkeeping services ensure that your business’s financial records and daily transactions are handled professionally. These are just some of the essential bookkeeping services our experts will take care of for you:

  • Making sure all financial transactions are accurately recorded
  • Managing accounts payable (money you owe)
  • Managing accounts receivable (money owed to you)
  • Reconciling bank and credit card statements
  • Maintaining accurate ledgers
  • Generating financial reports (profit and loss, balance sheets and cash flow statements)

Good, outsourced bookkeeping services ensure your figures are accurate. This in turn makes it easier to prepare management accounts that help you make strategic decisions. It also makes it much simpler to prepare your annual accounts and company tax return, saving you both time and money.

What services do you provide as a bookkeeper?

When you sign up for THP’s bookkeeping service, we’ll assign you your own bookkeeper. That means the same person will normally be taking care of your books each month. To be fair, we do let our bookkeepers go on holiday from time to time, but don’t worry – when that happens, another member of our team will take over to handle your bookkeeping while they are off.

We also aim to shape our bookkeeping service to your business’s requirements. That’s why we offer you this choice:

On-site or remote bookkeeping service

Different businesses like to work with our bookkeepers in different ways. Some are happy for us to do their bookkeeping remotely. Others prefer to have our bookkeepers on hand so they can ask questions or share ideas. It’s up to you!

  • On-site bookkeeping. We come to you and do your books at your premises. This is the ideal service if you don’t have time to scan in your paperwork to your accounts software or send it to us.
  • Remote bookkeeping service. We’ll do all your books off-site. You simply need to let us have copies of your paperwork and access to your bookkeeping or accounting software. This service is best if you want to keep your bookkeeping costs lower.
  • A bit of both. We’re flexible. If you’d like us to visit you some months and work remotely for others, that’s fine too. We’re happy to work the way that suits you best.

Do you offer bookkeeping services to all UK businesses?

Yes. We offer remote bookkeeping services to all UK businesses. If you need on-site bookkeeping, we can help if you are within a reasonable distance of our offices in London, Essex and Surrey (Wanstead, Chelmsford, Saffron Walden and Sutton).

How often do you need to do my bookkeeping?

We can either do your bookkeeping monthly or quarterly, depending on your preference.

That said, we strongly recommend choosing our monthly bookkeeping service. That way it’s easier to keep on top of your books and you’ll have a much clearer, ongoing insight into your finances.

Can a bookkeeper save me money?

Yes, a bookkeeper can save you money. For example, a THP bookkeeper can help avoid costly errors such as missed invoices or duplicate payments. Well-kept books also help you manage your cash flow better, helping you to time payments and income more effectively. They also mean your accountant can complete annual accounts and tax returns faster, resulting in lower fees. Finally, opting for an outsourced bookkeeping service means you can focus on building your business, not financial admin.

Help with bookkeeping software

If you don’t have bookkeeping software, we can help!

We are very happy to evaluate your business’s needs and recommend suitable bookkeeping or cloud accounting software. We can also help you save money by letting you have access to the software at the cost-price we pay for it.

If you already have bookkeeping or accounting software, that’s great. We are experienced at working with all major software packages – and many others besides!

Why choose THP for your bookkeeping service?

Our accountants, bookkeepers and tax specialists have a huge amount of shared expertise, and we’re used to working for larger businesses and those with complex requirements. If your allocated bookkeeper doesn’t know the answer to any question you may have, one of their colleagues most certainly will.

Bookkeeping service FAQs

All businesses need bookkeeping services. If your company doesn’t have its own, internal and professional bookkeepers, it’s a smart move to invest in outsourced bookkeeping. That way, you benefit from a fast service and have peace of mind that your books are accurate.

Yes, particularly if you don’t have in-house expertise. Without it, there’s a much greater chance your books will contain mistakes. These can cause problems further down the line, such as when you prefer your annual accounts or company tax return.

We don’t do payroll as part of our standard bookkeeping service package. However, we do offer separate payroll outsourcing services for companies of all sizes.

A bookkeeper focuses on the day-to-day transactions of your business. This involves tasks such as managing invoices and reconciling bank statements. An accountant has a broader and more analytical role. They can provide services such as tax advice or preparing your annual accounts or company tax return. At THP, both accountants and bookkeepers provide our bookkeeping service. We also offer a full range of business accounting services.

How much outsourced bookkeeping costs depends on the size and nature of your business. Get in touch today and we’d be delighted to give you a competitive quote.

No. However, if you use our bookkeeping service it can make some of our other services cheaper. For example, if we do your bookkeeping, it will normally cost you less for us to prepare both your annual and regular management accounts.

Most of our clients prefer to work with a single, named bookkeeper. So they’ll be doing your books most months or quarters. Of course, if your bookkeeper is unwell or on holiday, a colleague will make sure your bookkeeping is still done to schedule.
