Senior Accountant Chelmsford Essex

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join the team at our office in Chelmsford in Essex. Working closely with the local office Director, dealing with a varied client portfolio, you will be responsible for high level client service delivery on time and within budget. Successful candidates will be encouraged to further develop their skills in a well-established and ambitious practice.

Main Responsibilities

  • Preparation and completion of statutory accounts, year-end accounts and rental accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships
  • Dealing with a varied client portfolio (T/O up to £4million) including OMBs, property investors, agricultural, retail etc.
  • Preparation of corporation tax returns
  • Preparation of monthly or quarterly management accounts include forecasting and budgeting
  • Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) return preparation and submissions
  • Finalising accounts under the control of the Director
  • Organising flow of work, allocating assignments and managing time as necessary taking into consideration client deadlines and other constraints
  • Ensure work is completed within agreed time and budget
  • Liaising with third parties as required (HMRC, mortgage brokers, other members of your team, payroll bureau, etc)
  • Developing and maintaining effective client relationships, including attending client meetings and premises as required
  • Dealing with general incoming client queries and escalating as needed
  • Bookkeeping and preparation of VAT Returns
  • Opportunity to be involved in ad-hoc client projects
  • Keeping up to date technically

Skills, Experience and Attributes required

  • Relevant professional qualification e.g. AAT/ACCA/ICAEW
  • Experience gained in a practice setting
  • Up to date statutory accounts and accounting knowledge and sound accounting, corporate/personal tax and VAT technical knowledge is required
  • Experience of preparing management accounts (to include forecasting and budgeting)
  • Client focused attitude and have proven experience of building and maintaining relationships with clients
  • Experience of working with a variety of clients. Portfolio will include property investors, property developers and agricultural clients so experience of working with these would be an advantage
  • Acute sense of fine detail and the ability to analyse and solve more complex accounting queries
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, Xero, SAGE, IRIS, Quickbooks and FreeAgent
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and flexible in approach
  • Excellent communication skills – oral and written with the ability to deal with a variety of people in different environments
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Self-motivated and organised with the ability to manage a variety of tasks and workload
  • Commercially aware
