We are looking for a school/college leaver who has recently completed their GCSE/A Levels to become an AAT trainee. This role will be based in our office in Wanstead London and primarily be a supporting role in our bookkeeping department but on occasion you will have the opportunity to prepare FRS105 accounts and assist as an audit junior in our busy audit season.

Upon completion of the AAT qualification, you will get the opportunity to progress into the ACA qualification and become a Chartered Accountant.

Main Responsibilities

Bookkeeping (majority of the role)

Preparing VAT returns for clients under supervision
Scanning of client records and documents
Liaising with clients
Preparing clear logical schedules fully cross referenced to supporting documentation
Completing any other duties as requested
Preparing sales and purchase control accounts
Calculating accruals and prepayments and supporting schedules
Preparing or checking fixed asset registers
Effectively managing time to ensure that jobs are finished within budget

Audit involvement (on occasion)

Completing all substantive tests with minimal supervision
Resolving simple queries and referring more complex issues to more senior members of team members
Managing own time, recognising any problems at an early stage to ensure that jobs are completed within budget
Completing stock takes and write up detailed notes and results

Accounts & General Practice (on occasion)

Completing sets of accounts, working from source documents/records to final accounts for review by the appropriate manager/senior
Inputing data into Iris
Preparing working paper files

Skills, Experience and Attributes required: –

GCSE grades 9-5 in Maths and Science
Strong literacy and numerical skills
Excellent communication skills oral and written English are essential
Computer experience – Excel, Word
Organised – ability to deal with a variety of tasks and managing a varied workload
Previous work experience in a customer facing role is an advantage, as is the ability to display maturity and work as part of a team
Confidence to build internal and external relationships
A willingness to study for the AAT is essential, whilst the company gives study leave, candidates must be willing to devote a considerable amount of time to studying in the evenings and weekends
